The Age of the Ghanaian Renaissance

Ghanaian street brand Renaissance created by three friends Michael Bilson, Michael Aglebe and Godfred Selase Tsikudo that specializes in urban, luxury street wear. Their pieces are simple, cool, clean, and perfectly tailored. Their looks have an international appeal from their stripped t-shirts reminiscent of higher end brands such as Yves Saint Laurent and Kanye West’s Yeezy Season 3. The three men describe their brand as a reflection of their art. They wanted to bring their creativity and high fashion minimalist appeal to those who can’t exactly afford a 300-dollar shirt. Having admired the high end retailers, they decided to bring that influence into their designs with an affordable twist.

All the pieces are hand made in their studio. Their pieces are reflective of the New York Urban street style. All the pieces are rather minimalist with solid colors, and the only patterns used being stripes or plaid. With an online shop coming soon, there is no doubt that this brand will begin to explode due to its international appeal. Their latest look-book was filled with male models giving their best pouts, and lots of plaid. The european and american influence shows in the straightedged tailored pants and the muted plaid patterns that work effortlessly with their chic t-shirts. Their brand is extremely versatile, with each piece a quiet statement on its own.  The T-shirts carry little detail except for the perfectly placed Renaissance label defending vertically in the center of the shirt.

This brand shows the diversity in Ghanaian fashion and the move the younger generation are making. A mix of Ghanaian history, whether through shape or fabric and an unmistakable New york street style edge. Their perfectly curated Instagram account, hints of bigger and more exciting things to come, a fresh mix of music, art, and fashion.
