The London born Ghanaian fashion designer Abenaa Pokuaa, created Ohema Ohene in 2008. The brand name means Queen and King in the Ghanaian dialect Twi, an homage to her Ghanaian heritage. Prior to creating this brand, Abenaa obtained a degree in Fashion design technology surface Textiles at London College of fashion. After graduation, she moved on to work in the real world fashion industry to deepen her understanding of the business.
After a brief return to Ghana, Abenaa finalized her brand. The style blends British styling with African fabrics that make for bold, and elegant pieces for both men and for women. The prints used are sourced directly from Ghana, her dedication to cultural awareness does not stop there. The brand also aims to employ as many Ghanaians as possible to emphasize the true blend of her brand that this is a locally sourced and produced item with English style.
