Studio 189 was created in 2011 by actress Rosario Dawson and designer Abrima Erwiah. The goal was to create a platform that not only encouraged the development of African based brands but was dedicated to their distribution and success. The company headquarters are in Ghana and America.
The dynamic duo have already collaborated with brands like Opening Ceremony, and have had popup shops in America, that showcased their artisan made clothing from Ghana. Both Rosario and Adrima have been dedicated to the cause of empowerment throughout their careers. Abrima had created a collection called Fashion Rising in 2011 that brought awareness to violence against women.
The company is about much more than just fashion. There is a dedication to creating jobs and for encouraging education and the development of new skills within Ghana. With the celebrity behind Rosario and the fashion experience possessed by Abrima, it is no doubt that Studio One Eighty Nine, will be a prominent feature of African Fashion in the years to come.
